Design by What Matters helps consumers get to the root of "what matters" to them. By answering a few fun and interactive questions, DBWM is able to determine the user's design personality and perfect palette.
Some digital paint tools help users find a palette. Others can even paint a digital room with that palette. Two problems: digitally painted rooms that process server-side (like most competitor's tools do) are slow to load and the rooms look miserably fake.
I managed a team of five developers and three designers to create Design by What Matters. Together, we built the industry's most interactive design personality tool and the most advanced digital wall-painting tool online. We used a combination of server-side caching and client-side processing to dynamically build rooms faster and make them more realistic than any of Ben Moore's competitors. Each room consists of many image layers. These layers include an outdoor window scene, walls, lighting, paint color, matte/gloss finish, furniture, and even personality elements like children's toys or running shoes. DBWM utilizes a CMS to manage site updates, separate mobile and desktop sites, and three language settings: EN-US, EN-CA & FR-CA. And, we built it all in house with support from 747 CGI, color theorists, and interior design consultants.
Design by What Matters was Benjamin Moore's flagship digital tool and Martin Agency's most awarded digital project in 2014. FWA featured it as Site of the Day and Mobile Site of the Day, and it was both a One Show and Webby Finalist. Most importantly, I hope you like it too.
